This picture was taken in January 1977 when Lon was about one month old. It was originally color, but because of time and sun exposure the color has been washed out and is about 60% faded overall. This photo was a challenge because it has red speckles and uneven fading throughout.

With subtle dodging and burning I was able to pull out important features that were washed out by the sun.

I used an color averaging brush to remove many of the speckles that had marred the photo previously.

Another problem I ran into was graininess. I increased the darkness on the non-focal areas of the image (particularly on the right side). This increased the focus on Baby Lon and Grandma Lucy while at the same time reducing visible grain.
